It was definitely a good film, but the 3 films that came before it were absolutely incredible that any minor faults with 4 stood out to me a lot. I’ve read in multiple reviews that people cried so maybe it’s just me?ĭoes anyone have similar thoughts? Or am I alone in having these issues with the film?Įxpectations were so high with this film so I think that’s where my trouble lies. It just didn’t have that emotional impact on me like it should have. Here we had a farewell that felt more like saying goodbye to someone who’s going on a long holiday, rather than saying goodbye forever. When the toys said goodbye to Andy in Toy Story 3, we were given a nice moment which tugged at the heart strings and that final look back at the toys made grown men and women cry. These toys have been pals for 20 years, and it was almost too easy for them to say goodbye and part ways. We didn’t get time to process or feel the gravity of what was actually happening. when we got to the moment of Woody saying goodbye to the gang, it felt rushed. Bo Peep was good, but felt like a completely different character from who she was in the first film which I found a little distracting, but a lot can happen to a toy over the course of 20ish years so you can make allowances for that.Īnd then there was the ending. She had great moments but didn’t quite get there. But I felt the villain of the film, Gabby Gabby, was a shadow of what Lotso was in the 3rd film. The new characters for the most part were great, in particularly Ducky and Bunny, and Duke Caboom got a few laughs. It wasn’t so much a Toy Story movie, as it was a Woody Story movie. Buzz has a decent sized role but still felt he was lacking. I was left wanting more of Jessie, Rex, Slinky, the potato heads, and Ham, which for the most part felt like cameos. The film pushes all our favourite characters besides Woody aside. With a rotten tomatoes score of 98% (as of the 19th of June) I feel like I may be in the minority when I say I was left a little disappointed in the film. Many people, including me questioned ‘why make a 4th film when the ending of 3 was perfect?’ The three films are among my most cherished movies. I’m now 30 and still in love with the films. Toy Story 4 is set to hit theaters on June 21, 2019.I saw the first film when it came out when I was 6. Did she leave Andy’s room on her own? Has she always been this wandering adventuress, previously stifled by societal expectations of toys? Will she and Woody reunite happily, or does he want a soft little farm wife and not a thrill-seeking vagabond? This implies that there’s more to Bo’s story than just getting fished out of a bin at a yard sale. And when Woody shows up, they can’t believe that they’ve found each other again.” “While Woody was watching Andy grow up, Bo gathered dust until she took it upon herself to head out into the world. “Bo’s taken control of her own destiny,” said Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley in a press release. Now that she’s living on the road, Bo’s turned into an “adventurous and free-spirited” sort of lass, much different from the docile porcelain doll that Woody once knew. This time, however, she’s ditched the poofy skirts for a more streamlined jumpsuit. Thus, the lovers Woody and Bo Peep were separated, but it looks like fate has dealt them another chance. She was notably absent from Toy Story 3 the toys mention that she was one of the casualties of a yard sale. The last time she was featured in a Toy Story movie was in 1999, in Toy Story 2. Toy Story 4 will mark the first theatrical appearance of Bo Peep, Woody’s love interest and shepherdess extraordinaire, in 20 years. Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the Toy Story gang aren’t just welcoming new friends like Forky, Bunny, and Ducky in Toy Story 4 - they’re also getting reunited with an old one.
